Further Information & Advice
Vokèra Solar flat plate collector systems are made up of the following main components: Solar flat plate collector(s), pump station, control, twin coil water cylinder and traditional boiler. The Solar system will provide a % of the domestic hot water requirement, the boiler then steps in to make up the differential.
We recommend that a Solar flat plate collector system is connected System or Open Vent boiler and a twin coil cylinder. This allows the Solar energy collected to be stored in a cylinder for later use and the boiler provides a top up in temperature, when the Solar collector does not reach the desired temperature of 60 degrees. Current regulations are unclear as to the usage of Solar thermal installations with Combi boilers. We will update this page upon clarification of the guidelines.
Solar Thermal in Action at our Head Office
At our head offices outside of London our Flat plate collector reported a reading of 42.3 degrees at 12 noon on the 7th April. Our Vokèra boiler then has to make up the differential to 60 degrees, so makes up the additional 17.7 degrees to reach the 60 degrees required.
