Find an Installer

Find an Installer

If you are having a new boiler installed or your heating system upgraded, it is vitally important that you find an installer that is fully qualified and competent. Both the Gas Safe Register and Benchmark, as found below, set good standards for the industry and Vokèra’s Accredited Installers adhere to these standards.

Find an Accredited Installer now

To get contact details for a Vokèra Accredited Installer or request them to contact you, please either email the Boiler Upgrade department at: boilerupgrade@vokera.co.uk or call on: 01727 744031 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

A Vokèra Accredited Installers must be on the Gas Safe Register and follow the Benchmark procedures by completing the checklist that can be found at the back of your Vokèra installation manual. Our Accredited Installers must also receive training from Vokèra every 18 months.

Gas Safe Register

Gas Safe Register runs the register of legal gas engineers who are qualified to work with gas in Great Britain and Isle of Man. To carry out work on gas installations and appliances safely and legally, gas engineers must be in the Gas Safe Register. Always ask for a Gas Safe registered engineer and always ask to see their identity card.

You should also check the back of the identity card that clearly states the work that the engineer is qualified to carry out, so check the back of the card too. Those who have the relevant qualifications will not mind you asking. Be gas safe. For more information and to find and check an engineer go to Gas Safe Register’s website or call 0800 408 5500.

Benchmark

Vokèra also supports, and is a member, of the Benchmark initiative, which is the nationally-recognised scheme that places responsibilities on both manufacturers and installers to ensure best practice in the installation, commissioning and servicing of domestic heating and hot water products in line with Building Regulations in England and Wales. It is managed and promoted by the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC).

Controls

Controls

Central heating controls play an important part in a heating system. Controls provide a homeowner with flexibility as they allow you to have the boiler on at different times of the day, at different temperatures, with modern controls even automatically sensing the temperature and adjusting the boiler operation to provide the ultimate comfort in home heating.

As well as providing greater flexibility and comfort, they play an important part in energy saving. For the relatively low additional investment when upgrading a boiler and central heating system, controls can save up to 10% of a homeowners energy usage.

 Choosing the Right Control

How can controls improve the ErP efficiency rating?

Differing types of controls are classified according to the ‘uplift’ in efficiency it brings to the package. There are eight classes of control system, each adds an efficiency percentage to the boiler seasonal space heating ErP efficiency rating. That is how the package efficiency is calculated. Additional heaters such as a second boiler, heat pump or solar input will also adjust the package efficiency:

Class I: Room Thermostat: A room thermostat that controls the on/off operation of a heater. Performance parameters, including switching differential and room temperature control accuracy are determined by the thermostat’s mechanical.

Class II: Weather compensator control, for use with modulating heaters: A heater flow temperature control that varies the set point of the flow temperature of water leaving the heater dependent upon prevailing outside temperature and selected weather compensation curve. Control is achieved by modulating the output of the heater.

Class III: Weather compensator control, for use with on/off output heaters: A heater flow temperature control that varies the set point of the flow temperature of water leaving the heater dependent upon prevailing outside temperature and selected weather compensation curve. Heater flow temperature is varied by controlling the on/off operation of the heater.

Class IV: TPI room thermostat, for use with on/off output heaters: An electronic room thermostat that controls both thermostat cycle rate and in-cycle on/off ratio of the heater proportional to room temperature. TPI control strategy reduces mean water temperature, improves room temperature control accuracy and enhances system efficiency.

Class V: Modulating room thermostat, for use with modulating heaters: An electronic room thermostat that varies the flow temperature of the water leaving the heater dependent upon measured room temperature deviation from room thermostat set point. Control is achieved by modulating the output of the heater.

Class VI: Weather compensator and room sensor, for use with modulating heaters: A heater flow temperature control that varies the flow temperature of water leaving the heater dependent upon prevailing outside temperature and selected weather compensation curve. A room temperature sensor monitors room temperature and adjusts the compensation curve parallel displacement to improve room comfort. Control is achieved by modulating the output of the heater.

Class VII: Weather compensator and room sensor, for use with on/off output heaters: A heater flow temperature control that varies the flow temperature of water leaving the heater dependent upon prevailing outside temperature and adjusts the compensation curve parallel displacement to improve room comfort. Heater flow temperature is varied by controlling the on/off operation of the heater.

Class VIII: Multi-sensor room temperature control, for use with modulating heaters: An electronic control, equipped with 3 or more room sensors that varies the flow temperature of the water leaving the heater dependent upon the aggregated measured room temperature deviation from room sensor set points. Control is achieved by modulating the output of the heater.

Unica i32 plus Class VI controls (Vokèra 711 RF programmable thermostat plus weather compensation sensor) achieves an ErP A+ (98%) space heating package rating.

Evacuated Tube Collectors

Vokèra Zenith evacuated tube collectors

Vokèra’s solar evacuated tube collectors are called Zenith, these are available from 1 to 6 collectors in a series, depending upon your requirement. Vokèra offers pre-sales advice and can arrange a no obligation quotation.

evacuated_tube_solar_final

Features

  • Ideal for retro fit and new build applications
  • Long working life
  • Solar Keymark seal of approval
  • MCS Approved

Further Information & Advice

Solar thermal evacuated tube collectors can provide a percentage of your domestic hot water needs, the remaining shortfall is made up by your traditional gas boiler (or other heating system). An evacuated tube collector system is made up of the following main components: Solar evacuated tube collector(s), twin coil water cylinder, traditional boiler, pump station and control.

Vokèra advises that a solar evacuated tube system is connected to a twin coil cylinder and a system or open vent boiler. This allows the solar energy collected to be stored in a cylinder for later use, the boiler also acts as a top up, when the solar evacuated tube collector does not reach the desired temperature. Current regulations are unclear as to the usage of solar thermal installations with combi boilers. We will update this page upon clarification of the guidelines.

Flat Plate Collectors

Vokèra Zenith solar ‘On tile’ and ‘Inset’ flat plate collectors

Vokèra’s range of solar flat plate collectors are called Zenith, these are available from one to six collectors in a series, depending upon your requirement. Vokèra offers pre-sales advice and can arrange a no obligation quotation.

Features

  • 10 year warranty
  • Solar Keymark seal of approval
  • MCS approved – demonstrating the quality and reliability
  • Lifespan of up to 20 years

Further Information & Advice

Vokèra solar flat plate collector systems are made up of the following main components: solar flat plate collector(s), pump station, control, twin coil water cylinder and traditional boiler. The solar system will provide a percentage of the domestic hot water requirement, the boiler then steps in to make up the differential.

We recommend that a solar flat plate collector system is connected system or open vent boiler and a twin coil cylinder. This allows the solar energy collected to be stored in a cylinder for later use and the boiler provides a top up in temperature, when the solar collector does not reach the desired temperature of 60°. Current regulations are unclear as to the usage of Solar thermal installations with combi boilers. We will update this page upon clarification of the guidelines.
